India's First Prime Ministerial Visit to Israel, Bilateral Push

Marking a fine shift in India's foreign policy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to board for his visit to Israel on a three-day trip starting July 4. This will be the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the country.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also excited about Modi's visit as he characterized the visit as 'historic', and said he will accompany the Indian Prime Minister to many of the sites during his visit.

This visit holds key significance for the bilateral relations between both the countries. During this visit, the PM is expected to discuss mutual interests of the two countries in details. The Prime Minister is also expected to meet the Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.

Upon his arrival in Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be personally received by the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu at the airport, who will later that day host a dinner for him. The next day, both the leaders will visit the Indian community reception after their official talks when the two leaders will explore ways to boost cooperation in key strategic areas.

India is currently Israel's biggest arms market, with an average trade of $1 billion each year. PM Modi is expected to hold three-day talks with Israel to further advance the sales and production of missiles, drones and radar systems between the two countries. On top of that, India and Israel are also expected to announce strategic partnerships in areas such as water, agriculture and space technology etc during this visit.

Apart from setting up an industrial research and development fund of $40 million, a deal with the Uttar Pradesh government is likely to be signed to clean up a patch of the Ganga, said Daniel Carmon, the Israeli ambassador to India at a media briefing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be discussing a plan for Israeli help in boosting India’s food security. According to officials, the plan is to expand 26 agriculture expertise centers Israel set up in 15 Indian states to help increase agricultural output.

On Wednesday, PM Modi will address a massive rally of expectedly 4000-5000 People for the Indians at Tel Aviv Fairgrounds. On July 6, the Prime Minister will pay homage to Indian soldiers killed in Haifa and host a forum for 30 CEOs.
