Gift From Google Earth: American Woman Spots Mother 18 Months After Her Death

Technology has revolutionaries the way we live our lives in many ways, but for one woman longing for her mother 18 months after her death, old footage of Google Earth showing her mother was a boon.

Denise Underhill, an American woman living in the UK was missing her mother Beryl Turton who had passed away 18 months earlier. Nostalgic, Denise searched for her mother's old home on Google Earth, hoping to catch a glimpse of the house.

“As I went about my housework, I somehow instantaneously had the impulse to call my mother but realising that it was completely out of the question,” The Independent quoted her as saying.

“I decided to Google Earth my mother’s home to see how it looked, considering, since she had passed away in 2015 and the property had been sold,” she said.

Using Google Earth Denise located the home on Chaytor Road in Staffordshire, England, by recognising a tall silver birch tree and zoomed in on to the street view. To her surprise she spotted her mother outside the home watering the plants as an old view of the road was being streamed by Google Earth.

“I got the biggest surprise ever! I just couldn’t believe it, she said.

“At the foot of the driveway was my mother. She was watering the garden, just as she always did. I was absolutely astounded; it made my day. You never know what photos are being taken but they really do last a lifetime,” Denise added.

“I think someone wanted me to see this,” she said.
