After a clash between the new French President and head of France's armed forces over military budget cuts, the Military head Gen Philippe de Villiers has decided to resign from his post.

Gen Villiers, in a statement, said, he could no longer "guarantee the durability of the army model" that he considered necessary to ensure France's protection.

The Military Chief De Villiers and President Macron were going through a rift ever since the President had announced a ‘cut’ in the military budget.

Opposing the budget cut, Villiers had on multiple occasions protested and even vilified against the president. In response, the French President, in a Military of Defence Speech, had reminded everyone that he takes the decisions saying, “I am your boss”.

He also added, “I don't need pressure or commentary”.

The President also warned the chief in a media interview, saying, “If the [military] chief of staff has an issue with the President of the Republique, the chief of staff will be changed.”

After his unbent take, many were angry with the president for publically aspersing the military chief.

The President and military chief were scheduled to meet on Friday to smooth out their differences, however, Villiers’s resignation has brought another crisis on Macron’s door.
