Historically, thieves have tried and tested various methods to carry out their operations, a topic which has been richly explored by the film industry. However, thieves in South Africa opted for a method that has not even appeared in films; by attempting to pull a luxury car using donkeys!

The thieves attempting to smuggle a luxury car into Zimbabwe by having donkeys lug the car across the sand and the Limpopo river failed in their attempt as the car got stuck in sand and police caught up with them.

The thieves had put metal sheets under the wheels of the stolen Mercedez Benz C220 to make it easier for the donkeys to pull, but the donkeys got stuck in the sand. By the time police caught up, the suspects fled into the bushes towards Zimbabwe.

"The suspects were using donkeys to pull the car across the river‚ but our members were just in time to pounce on them after the donkeys were apparently no longer able to pull it through the sand," Police Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo is quoted in local media as saying.
