In order to funds its reign of terror, the cash-strapped Islamic State is now selling sex slaves on Facebook. According to experts, after the devastation of its income stream by sustained bombings of its oil refineries and smuggling routes, the increased pressure on IS coming from Iraq and Syria has made the fighters to resort to this medium as a new source of income.
The story was first reported by Washington Post.
The Washington Post traced the images to a Facebook post from last week.
According to The Washington Post, the post came to the attention of the Middle East Media Research Institute, which monitors jihadists’ social-media accounts and were removed by Facebook within hours.
Supposedly posted by an Islamic State fighter, these images show young women hesitantly posing for the camera. The asking price was approximately $8,000 for each woman.
The another post attributed to a German Islamic State fighter who calls himself Abu Assad Almani states "to all the bros thinking about buying a slave, this one is $11,000.”
"It is unknown, however, if the person who posted the images was selling the women himself, or commenting on other fighters’ sales ventures," The Washington Post mentioned.
