95 Killed, 163 Wounded in Kabul Bomb Attack

A huge explosion hit Kabul city on Saturday that has resulted in several casualties. The explosion took place at Sedarat Square, situated in the heart of the city, close to most of the embassies and government offices.

As per reports, the explosion took place near the old building of the Interior Ministry. Eyewitnesses reported that it was a car bomb.

As per Afghan media reports, 95 people have been killed and 163 have been wounded.

Social media has been abuzz with images and videos of smoke and shattered panes following the accident.

"I can confirm an explosion happened near the old interior ministry building in Kabul," AFP quoted Afghan interior ministry deputy spokesman Nasrat Rahimi.

The blast comes exactly a week after the deadly attack on the Intercontinental Hotel by Taliban militants and barely 3 days after the gruesome attack on aid group Save the Children in Jalalabad. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack on Save the Children.

Save the Children, a global charity that provides aid in 120 countries, said it had suspended all Afghanistan operations. The organization had been working in 16 provinces of Afghanistan reaching out to more than 700,000 children.
