Actress and producer Louise Linton who married US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin two months ago in a lavish ceremony landed in fresh controversy after an Instagram post on Monday following which she made her account private. As Linton's Instagram conversation drew national attention, she has issued an apology, her publicist said in a statement.

"I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response. It was inappropriate and highly insensitive," Linton was quoted as saying in a statement by her publicist on Tuesday.

In the controversial Instagram post, Linton shared a picture of herself along with her husband disembarking from a Government of US plane while mentioning the various famous fashion designers whose items she was sporting, including Hermes, Tom Ford and Valentino.

A Cabinet member of the US government generally does not travel with spouse nor does he or she usually fly in government planes for domestic business, but since Linton often accompanies Mnuchin on official trips, the couple is known to reimburse the government for the cost of her seat. On their recent trip to Kentucky they reportedly got a waiver from the government regarding the use of the official plane.

A comment on the Instagram post from a user "Jennimiller29" sparked controversy when she wrote "Glad we could pay for your little getaway."

The comment drew a fierce response from Linton, who wrote "Did you think this was a personal trip?!"

"Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I'm pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day 'trip' than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you'd be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours."

Calling Jennimiller29's comment 'passive aggressive' and 'nasty', Linton added, "You're adorably out of touch. . . . Thanks for the passive aggressive nasty comment. Your kids look very cute. Your life looks cute."

In a separate post, Jennimiller29 wrote "She says she's a nice person. I doubt it."

Linton's Instagram profile was changed to private mode and as the Instagram exchange became public she issued an apology via her publicist.
