These stakers from Ujjain district really wanted to make their gesture towards the Madhya Pradesh Police look grand. For allowing IPL match betting, without any impediment, these betting mafias took to the local newspaper to post an advertisement wherein they have publically thanked MP police including its director general.
After facing the embarrassment that followed, the police has now filed a FIR against the chief editor Ganshyam Patel and Abhay Tirwar, the executive editor of the evening newspaper that published the ad on Tuesday.
The advertisement says, “Nirvighna Satta sanchalan par aap ka hriday se aabhaar. Soujanya: Ujjain Satoriya Sangh (Gratitude from our hearts to you for the unimpeded running of betting Source: Ujjain Betting Association).
The advertisement also carried photos of DGP Rishi Kumar Shukla, inspector general of police (IG) Ujjain zone V Madhukumar, and SP Ujjain Manohar Singh Verma.
The people on whom the FIR was filed are still to be taken into custody.
The newspaper editors said that their motive was to bring the racket if IPL Betting to light and also to make people aware of the fact that the local police system is doing very little to bust the on-going racket.
But it all went spiraling down when the FIR was directed towards them.
According to a report in HT, the editors are booked under IPC Section 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 500 (Punishment for defamation), 501(Printing or engraving matter is known to be defamatory) and 502 (Sale of printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter).
