India's last major war, the 1999 Kargil War against Pakistan came to an end on July 26 after 60 days of fighting and since then, the date is celebrated as the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The war was triggered when Pakistani troops trespassed into the Kargil area of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir. Since the Pakistani troops were at a higher altitude in comparison to the Indian forces, the Indian forces faced a tougher battle yet still emerged victorious. However, 527 Indian bravehearts were martyred in the battle.

On the 18th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the nation comes together to salute the Armed forces.
