The Tashkent Files Trailer: Vivek Agnihotri's Thriller Is Based On A Real-Life Mystery

The makers of The Tashkent Files released the first trailer of the movie on Monday. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s latest flick aims to uncover the truth behind former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s mysterious death.

While it is said that Shashtri died due to a heart attack many of his supporters and family members believe that his death was a conspiracy and a planned murder.

The trailer features an interesting star cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Naseeruddin Shah, Shweta Basu, Pankaj Tripathi, Vinay Pathak, Mandira Bedi, Pallavi Joshi, Ankur Rathee and Prakash Belawadi.

“Did Shastriji die, or was he killed?” asks Mithun Chakraborty’s character in the trailer. Mithun plays Shyam Sundar Tripathi in the film, who appears to be the leader of a present-day enquiry committee into the conspiracy theory that Shastri was killed.

“Was it a heart attack or a state-sponsored murder?” a woman asks in a voiceover, as ominous shots of characters pacing about in rooms play out. While some characters like that of Pallavi Joshi believe that Shashtri died of a heart attack, others like Pankaj Tripathi and Shweta Basu Prasad are not too sure.

The movie is slated to release on 12 April in the midst of the Lok Sabha elections. Lal Bahadur Shastri was a prominent freedom fighter and the second ever Prime Minister of independent India.
