In current times there is a most awful affliction that has hit the population as a pandemic - addiction to mobile phones. Reports of accidents while people try to take selfies at dangerous locations, or text while walking or driving are common. People are constantly glued to their mobile phone screens wherever they may be.
A recent video made by South Africa’s Western Cape Government’s Safely Home department shows the price we may have to pay if we continue to stay focused on our mobile screens and do not pay attention to our surroundings.

The video begins with a series of clips of people walking and texting, showing how sometimes mobile phones break or people crash into objects. The light-hearted tone of the video changes when it shows the inside of a car and a woman texting while driving. As she looks at her phone and continues texting, the car gets into an accident and flips over.
The message of the video is clear: “You can’t even text and walk – so why do text and drive?
“It can wait.”
