In the liquor ban case, The Supreme Court gave relief to the petitioners on Tuesday. The SC will be hearing the pleas of the states- who seek modification in the Liquor Ban today.
The top court gave an order in December of 2016 to ban liquor shops within 500 meters of state and national Highways of the country from April 1!

Reports state that the pleas will be heard by the bench comprising of Chief Justice J S Khehar, Justices DY Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao.
The CJI then said that that jurist T R Andhyarujina passed away on tuesday and Justice Chandrachud has gone to attend his last rights, if he returns on time today then the hearing will proceed at 3pm. Justice Khekar added that if Justice DY Chandrachud is still unavailable, then he will constitute a separate bench.
States like - Kerala, Punjab and Telangana have approached the SC to seek modification of the judgement to ban liquor vends from national highways!

The verdict has come on a PIL after alleging that almost 1.42 lakh people die per year in road accidents and drunken driving was the major reason of such accidents!
