While Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) is yet to roll out to all smartphones, Google has already launched its virtual assistant in a lightweight version named ‘Google Assistant Go’. The application is now accessible for download on Google Play.

The application supports a bunch of worldwide languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai. It might get support for Hindi too after some time - considering the current improvements in Google Assistant. Google has already released applications like Files Go, Gboard Go, Google Go, Maps Go, and YouTube Go.

The application offers most of the features that are accessible through the standard Google Assistant app. It enables you to make quick phone calls, send instant messages, play music, explore places, review your up and coming events, climate data, and make general inquiries.

To start using Google Assistant Go, you simply need to touch and hold the Home button or tap the microphone symbol on Google Search bar.

A help page by Google says that the Google Assistant Go application has a few less features over the full-fledged Google Assistant app since the application is made to utilize less storage and mobile data. The rundown of features that aren't accessible on the lightweight Google Assistant includes reminders, controls for smart home devices, actions on Google, and device actions. The app is unlikely to support OK Google or Hey Google hands-free activation.

The Google Play listing demonstrates that the Google Assistant Go application is perfect for devices running Android 8.0 Oreo and later.
