Facebook And NCW Launch Digital Literacy Program For Indian Women

Facebook in Collaboration with Cyber Peace Foundation launched a digital literacy program for Indian women. This initiative is to make women across major cities of India aware of the safe and responsible use of internet and social media. Under this initiative  60,000 women in cities of Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Manipur, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu on a pilot basis.

They will be given special interactive lectures on the use of Email, Social media and the Internet. This will allow the trainee women to differentiate between the Credible and  Questionable information.

This training would be conducted in their respective languages so that it is easy for them to understand the lectures. In today's world scenario, talking about equality for women in India this is very beneficial in making the Indian women towards their empowering. With more and more women going on the internet, NCW has witnessed the more complaints about cybercrime against women in past few years. Rekha Sharma- acting NCW Chairperson said," This trend is worrying. We have to ensure that while online, they feel safe and secure on the Internet.”

"We congratulate Facebook and Cyber Peace Foundation on this commendable initiative. Our girls and women will benefit from these training programmes,” Sharma said.

In a male-dominated country like India,  these type of initiatives plays a very crucial role in achieving the goal of quality and women empowerment.
