SunRisers Hyderabad opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan was at his destructive best as he single-handedly dismantled the Rajasthan Royals, cruising his team to a nine-wicket win on Monday in the Indian Premier League.
Chasing a lowly score of 126 runs, after the Sunrisers' bowlers had produced a disciplined display to restrict the Royals to a paltry total, Dhawan was dropped in the first over by captain Ajinkya Rahane and that blunder cost the visiting side dearly in the end.
The Indian opener went on to score 77 off 57 balls as his captain Kane Williamson played second fiddle and supported him to chase down the target in 15.1 overs.
Earlier, the 2016 IPL Champions showcased their bowling prowess as they smothered the RR batting line up.
The home side bowlers justified captain Williamson's decision to put the opposition in after winning the toss as the Royals struggled to score runs on a pitch which got the turn as the match wore on.
2017 season’s highest wicket-taker Bhuveneshwar Kumar once again oozed class as he took three wickets as Afghanistani spin bowler Rashid Khan was again economical in his four overs.
With this match, all the teams have played their first match with SRH on top of the table based on net run rate.
Drop his catch and he makes sure You feel the heat with his boundaries. Congratulations to @SDhawan25 on winning the well deserved Man Of The Match award for the Opening match#SRHvRR #IPL2018 #OrangeArmy #SRHvsRR pic.twitter.com/DWuIKzNJ0Q— SunRisers Hyderabad (@SunRisers) April 9, 2018
