Manchester United had to mount a comeback after being two goals down against Crystal Palace, to keep their second place in the Premier League table. They won the game by 3-2 on Monday.

With Liverpool hot on their tails, United had to win this game to regain their position in the premier league. The Old Trafford team upbeat after a usurping Chelsea in the last game had momentum on their side to finish the season strong. But, little did they know they’d have to work their socks off to win against a gritty Palace side.

Crystal Palace took the lead through an Andros Townsend’s deflected goal in the 16th minute. They doubled their advantage after a defensive hesitancy, that took left-back Patrick van Patrick van Aanholt to score past United keeper David de Gea.

Manager Jose Mourinho demanded his team to respond to this despondent performance, and the team answered his call.

Continuous pressure, resulting in a number of successive corners saw United go close.

Finally, it was defender Chris Smalling who leapt highest to head home and score the first United goal.

Inspired substitutions like Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata took the game’s momentum in United’s favour. Alexis Sanchez’s deflected shot off the bar was pounced on by in-form Romelu Lukaku and the score was level. The climax was completed when Nemanja Matic leathered the ball from 30 yards to score the winner and cause euphoria within the United camp.

Earlier, Manchester City were victorious over defending champions Chelsea in a comprehensive display. Chelsea seemed to be outplayed and City after asserting their lead didn’t seem the need to go full throttle.

Arsenal lost another match as they faltered to Brighton & Hove Albion. Calls to oust Arsene Wenger by Arsenal supporters are becoming more sonorous than ever.
