Overcoming his three-year-long bad luck, the reigning Commonwealth champion Parupalli Kashyap clinched the men's singles final of Australian Open by beating Malaysia's June Wei Cheam in straight games on Saturday.

The former National champion and second seed were able to beat Cheam 23-21 21-14 in a 37-minute clash. The shuttler won his first international title in three years as he lost in the finals of US Open Grand Prix Gold last year.

Indian player expressed his happiness with a tweet which read, "Happy to win the title here in # Vienna. First title for me this year. Thank you @IndianOilcl @OGQ_India #Gopichandacademy and all my well wishers for the continuous support."

Kashyap seemed in charge throughout the game but world number 126 was also trying to beat him with his best capability. The first round witnessed a fierce competition between the two competitors but the Indian seed saved the game by pocketing three points.

The second game was more in Kashyap's court from the beginning, who finished off the match within 37 minutes. The former world number 6 has dropped to number 52 due to various injuries he suffered in the past years.

Kashyap was wrecked by a calf muscle tear, went under the knife for a knee injury, suffered a dislocation of his right shoulder, a hamstring pull and an abdominal strain.
