Smriti Mandhana who ended 2018 as ICC Women's Cricketer of the year has started this new year with a bang. She scored a brilliant century (105) in the first ODI against New Zealand at Napier.

Just like the Indian men in their first game in New Zealand, the women too came up with a clinical all-around effort at the McLean Park to go 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series.

Mandhana's (105) and  Jemimah Rodrigues (81 not out) guided India to nine wickets victory on Thursday.

Indian women team won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first. The hosts failed to set a big total and bundled out for 192 in 48.4 overs.

Ekta Bisht and Poonam Yadav played an important role for India in this innings. Both took three or three wickets. In addition, Deepti Sharma got two and Shikha Pandey got one wicket.

Earlier, Suzie Bates scored the highest of 36 runs for New Zealand. Apart from this, none of them could do exceptionally well.

The Indian team did not have much trouble in achieving the target of 193 runs as Mandhana made a wonderful partnership of 190 runs with Rodriguez.

The Indian team was only three runs away from victory, at the same time, Amelia Carr grabbed Mandhana by Lee Tahru and hit the first wicket of the Indian team.

However, this wicket did not cause much damage to the visiting team.
