Notify Hockey As National Game: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik To PM Modi

Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi requesting him to award hockey an official status as the national game of the country.

Hockey is said to be the official sport of India but no official ordinance is passed in the same to give it an official status. Odisha will be hosting the Hockey World Cup in the month of November this year. In regard to the issue, the Chief Minister of Odisha wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prior to the Hockey World Cup, Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik in the letter to Prime Minister Modi wrote, “As you know Sir, the next World Cup Hockey will be held Odisha in November this year. While reviewing the preparations, I was surprised and shocked to know that what is popularly known as the National Game - Hockey, has in fact never been notified as our National Game."

He adds,” Hence I am sure you will agree with the crores loving fans of our country — that Hockey truly deserves to be notified as our National Game. This will be a fitting tribute to the great Hockey players who have made our country proud.”
