After beating her compatriot PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal has reached a step closer to claiming the Indonesia Masters title by knocking the former world champion Ratchnok Intanon out of the tournament in Jakarta on Saturday.

Saina has marked her first official entry into a major's final post suffering from a knee injury back in August 2016. The World number 12 maintained her calm demeanour throughout the straight games and fought off Ratchanok 21-19 21-19 in the semi-final which lasted 48 minutes.

The 27-year-old finalist Saina showcased a tremendous fighting spirit as she erased a 6-10 deficit in the opening game and didn't let the Thai shuttler take charge in the second game. Sania soon covered 2 points advantage of the former world champion post break by levelling score to 13-13.

Some occasional mistakes from Intanon's side handed her a game point, which Nehwal used to her advantage. The Indian shuttler opened the second game with a 9-2 lead and continued to play the tricky game tactfully. Intanon tried to make a comeback but failed.

At one point, Saina was noted losing patience which allowed her competitor to take a 13-8 lead. Intanon's six consecutive points levelled their scores at 17-17 but Nehwal made a powerful comeback and earned two more points in comparison to Ratchnok's one and marked her victory.
