Apart from wrestling, India has always performed well in shooting in the quadrennial events. To leave a mark at this year's Commonwealth Games to be held in Australia's Gold Coast, India is ready with the top shooters squad.

Names of 27 shooters including 15 men and 12 women who will represent India in 2018 Commonwealth Games were revealed by National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) after the Organising Committee of the Games reduced the country quotas across sports.

Aiming at repeating the history of 2014 when India bagged 17 medals including 4 Gold, 9 Silver and 4 Bronze, Indian shooters will participate in the nine men's and eight women's events to take place in three disciplines of rifle, pistol and shotgun at the Belmont Shooting Centre in Brisbane.

Noted Indian shooters Jitu Rai and Gagan Narang who won gold in the men's 50m pistol event and a silver in the 50m rifle prone respectively at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games will also take part in this year's event along with Sanjeev Rajput, Manvjit Singh Sandhu and Mohammed Asab.

Women shooters include Heena Sidhu, Mehuli Ghosh and Manu Bhakar will also represent India at the games. Chandela who won a gold in women's 10m Air Rifle event in Glasgow will also mark her presence in 2018 Commonwealth Games.

NRAI President Raninder Singh said, "We have gone strictly by performance and merit as usual. For the Commonwealth Games, given the reduced quotas it was tough to have to leave out a few shooters who had shot consistently well over the considered period and we went for consistent top ranks across multiple events."

He added, "We believe we have a quality squad to match up and even better our performances of yesteryears. There are some exciting and extremely talented youngsters who will rub shoulders with established seniors and I am sure they will come out better with the experience."
