Kane Williamson's unbeaten 200 in the first Test against Bangladesh in Hamilton, which New Zealand won by an innings and 52 runs, has propelled him to a career-high 915 points in the ICC rankings.

This knock by the Kiwi captain has lifted him from 897 points to 915 points and he is just seven points away from toppling Virat Kohli at the top position in the ICC Test batsman rankings.

Kohli, who is currently leading India in a five-match ODI series against Australia at home, will not play Tests until after the World Cup, starting May 30 in England and Wales.

Williamson’s rating points are the highest by any New Zealander in Test cricket with Richard Hadlee the only other player from his country to cross the 900-point mark with a best of 909 points in bowling.

With two more tests to go in the series, Williamson has a chance to regain the top spot. Fellow Black Caps Neil Wagner and Tom Latham also climbed up the rankings.

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal was the other big mover in the latest rankings, jumping 11 spots to 25th after his first innings 126.

In the bowling department, Trent Boult and Tim Southee are two Kiwi bowlers in top 10. While Boult has slipped two places to take the eighth spot, Southee is ranked number nine. Neil Wagner, who claimed 11 wickets at Hamilton, is now at the 11th position.

For Bangladesh, with impressive knocks of 126 and 74, Tamim Iqbal has jumped 11 places to not only take the 25th position but also replace Shakib Al Hasan to become the top-ranked batsman from his country in this format.
