Indian Women's T20I Captain Harmanpreet Kaur And Her Deputy Smriti Mandhana To Feature In Women's Big Bash League

The 4th season of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) will feature Indian women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana.

It is learnt that Harmanpreet has extended her contract with Sydney Thunder and will represent the same, while Smriti Mandhana has been signed by a new franchise Hobart Hurricanes, she previously represented Brisbane Heat.

The Indian captain was the highest run-getter for her team Thunder in the second edition of the tournament as she smashed 296 runs in 12 matches with a strike-rate of 117 and an average of 59.20 and was also adjudged Thunder’s Player of the Tournament.

Speaking to media Smriti Mandhana said, "I'm really excited to have another opportunity in the WBBL this summer". "I’ve heard from many players that the Hurricanes group is a great squad to be around and I can’t wait to get to Tasmania for the matches," Mandhana added.

The destructive Indian opener had scored her maiden international hundred in an ODI against Australia at Blundstone Arena in 2016 in Tasmania.

Hobart Hurricanes’ coach Salliann Briggs said he was delighted with her squad’s final signing. He also added, "Mandhana is a proven performer on the world stage, we saw that just last week with her knock against the Aussies," she said. "I can’t wait to see her in purple, she’s an exciting addition not only for us but for the whole competition."
