All of the four Phogat sisters - Geeta, Babita, Ritu and Sangeeta were dropped by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) from the National camp in Lucknow. They were among the 15 national grapplers who were found guilty of skipping the camp and for tantrums and indiscipline.

Talking to the Quint, the eldest Phogat girl, Geeta justified her absence, "I injured my knee in late April and went to Bangalore to get myself checked. I was given an injected and advised rest. I wasn’t able to walk too much so I could not join the camp in time."

However, she did agree that not informing the federation about her absence was a mistake. Also, she clarified that her sisters Ritu and Sangeeta are waiting for their visas to Russia, where they are travelling to for training. Nonetheless, she has contacted the WFI secretary for resolving the matter.

"I have spoken to WFI secretary Vinod Tomar today (17 May) and have explained my situation to him. I have sent him all the documents and even my cancelled air tickets to Lucknow from Saturday. He said he will look into the matter," she said.

A notice directed to the wrestler sisters states that they have been chucked out from the national preparatory camp which is a must for Asian Games trials, effectively culminating all hopes for the Phogat girls of representing India at the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang (Indonesia).

Earlier WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has said, "The wrestlers selected for the national camp are expected to physically report to the camp within three days. If they have any problems or issues they should go there and report it to the coaches and find a solution."
