France emerged victorious as they beat Croatia 4-2 on Sunday at the final match of the FIFA World Cup 2018. Croatia made an exemplary start and also retained the ball throughout the match but was not able to beat the experienced blues.

The French side repeated the success on home soil at France in 1998 by a scoreline that hardly looked possible as the Croatian side stood toe-to-toe with the favourites for an hour.

Following a tournament packed with thrills and drama, the final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium lived up to what preceded it from the moment Les Bleus hit the front through an 18th-minute own goal by Mario Mandzukic,  a cruel role reversal for Croatian hero in the semi-final win over England.

Croatia in a retaliatory move equalized when Ivan Perisic's left-foot finish ended successfully in the 28th minute of the game but the real trouble came in 7 minutes later as Griezmann converted a VAR given penalty into numbers and restoring the domination of the blues by ending the first half at 3-1.

Griezmann converted his fourth of the tournament from 12 yards before Croatia pursued their opponents furiously once more at the start of the second half and updating the scoreboard to 4-1.

French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a judgment error and awarded Mandžukić the chance to post the last goal of the World Cup 2018 while the strike couldn't save the fate of the Croatian side.

Croatia had done it the hard way to reach this final, winning on penalties in the last 16 and quarter-final against Denmark and hosts Russia respectively before requiring extra time to beat England in the semi-final.

Teenage sensation and French favourite Mbappe became the second youngest player to score in a World Cup final, after Pele for Brazil in 1958 (17 years 249 days). Pogba became the first Manchester United player to score in a World Cup final, and the first Premier League player to do so since Emmanuel Petit in 1998.
