CWG 2018: Weightlifter Sathish Kumar Sivalingam Wins Third Gold For India

India's star weightlifter Satish Kumar Shivalingam continued the country's medal rush at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. He won the third gold for India in the men's 77kg weightlifting category.

He took the best load of 144 in the snatch while taking the best load of 173 in clean and jerk. Overall, his score was 317.

English weightlifter Jack Oliver won the Silver medal scoring a total of 312. Francois Etoundi of Australia won the bronze medal with a total score of 305. Etoundi injured his shoulder after his final lift.

Sathish, 25, inherited a weightlifting legacy, his father was also a weightlifter who won many titles at the national level. Following his father's footsteps, Satish made weightlifting his career. Sathish's father is currently working as a security guard in a university and Sathish is posted as a railway clerk in Chennai.

Sathish had previously won a gold medal in the same 77 kg men's category at the  2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where he lifted a total weight of 328 kg. Out of this 149 kg weight was taken in the snatch and 179 kg in clean and jerk weight. His record of weight lifting 149 kg in the snatch became his record in the Commonwealth Games. Sathish has made his own unique identity by winning Gold in two Commonwealth Games.
