After the recent incident of Xiaomi's most talked smartphone Note 4 catching fire in the pocket of a customer in Andhra Pradesh, the company has released a statement after initial investigation saying the phone was already damaged therefore holding the customer responsible for the incident.

Xiaomi has also launched a detained investigation into the incident to understand the exact cause of the fire.

Xiaomi, talking to a media outlet said, "Upon first impressions of the damaged device, we can conclude that extreme external force was applied to the device, which led to the back cover and battery being bent and screen getting damaged.”

Xiaomi also appealed all its other customers to refrain from opening the devices, applying extreme force or puncturing the battery. The company representative also asked its customers to avoid unauthorised repair shops for repairing or other purposes.

Xiaomi added, “If you find issues with your device, visit Xiaomi Authorized Service Centers (575 across 350+ cities) or reach us directly on our hotline 1800 103 6286 immediately."

According to experts, a battery can catch fire or explode due to two possible reasons - a manufacturing defect or poor treatment of the device. There is no way one can prevent a device from bursting into flame in case it's a manufacturing defect, however, one can avoid any damage to their phones by simply taking care of it.
