India’s ace tennis player Sania Mirza celebrated her 32nd Birthday on November 15.

Born to parents Imran Mirza, a sports journalist and Naseema, a homemaker, Sania was brought up in a Muslim family in Hyderabad. She started playing tennis at the tender age of six.

Through her tennis career, Sania has had notable victories over famous players such as Svetlana Kuznetsova, Vera Zvonareva, Marion Bartoli, Martina Hingis, Dinara Safina and Victoria Azarenka.

Sania Mirza is the only Indian woman who has been ranked in the top 100 in the world in singles and has won a WTA title in singles and doubles.

Apart from winning various championships and medals, the athlete has also been awarded the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri Award for her contribution to tennis.

Sania has always fiercely advocated for women and has been able to prove that tennis in India is not merely a sport for men.

She was also appointed as the brand ambassador of the ‘Save the Girl Child’ campaign by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2004.

She was also announced as UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia.

The tennis Superstar has been able to break all conventions and norms set for Indian women along the way.

Sania married Pakistani Cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010, which was not just a grand occasion for the two families, but also for the two nations Indian and Pakistan.
