PM Narendra Modi Terms Ireland Visit As Short But Historic

modi ireland Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reached Ireland on the first leg of his two-nation visit. Addressing the conference, Modi termed Ireland visit as short but historic as this is the first time in 60 years that an Indian Prime Minister has visited there. Modi will hold discussions with Prime Minister Enda Kenny. The Indian prime minister will depart for New York on Wednesday evening as part of the US leg of his tour. The prime minister will be in the US till September 29. Top updates:     In the first leg of his seven-day trip, he will visit Ireland for a day, marking first Prime Ministerial visit from India in almost 60 years. In Dublin, he will hold talks with Enda Kenny, the Taoiseach of Ireland. "We hope to further develop strong people-to-people and economic ties with Ireland in the years to come," Modi said ahead of the visit. He will also have a brief interaction with the Indian community before leaving for New York on Wednesday evening. He would be visiting the USA at the time when the UN would be celebrating 70th anniversary. In New York City, PM would address a summit on 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. The PM would also attend a summit hosted by President Obama on peacekeeping forces. Modi would hold talks with G-4 leaders on reforms in the UNSC. He would also meet top American investors. PM Modi take part in a Townhall Q&A at Facebook HQ along with Mark Zuckerberg. He would be visiting headquarters of global firms like Google & Tesla Motors. In San Jose Prime Minister Modi would interact with the Indian community. Modi's Visit: Detailed Itinerary 23rd September He will commence his week-day trip by landing in Ireland. The visit to the Ireland by an Indian prime minister has come after a gap of almost 60 years. In Dublin, he will hold talks with Enda Kenny, the Taoiseach of Ireland. He will also have a brief interaction with the Indian community 24th September PM will leave for the United States. He is likely to meet students of Wharton University in New York the same evening. 25th  September Prime Minister will address the UN Sustainable Development Summit for formal adoption of post-2015 new sustainable development agenda at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). PM Modi will also participate in a summit hosted by US President Barack Obama on peacekeeping, and pay his respects to the personnel who died during peacekeeping missions.  He will host a summit of G-4 (Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan) leaders where the main agenda will be reforms to the UN Security Council. PM Modi will have a working dinner with as many as 50 CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. He will also meet with heads of finance sector firms at a private event organised by JPMorgan Bank. 26th September Prime Minister Modi will visit the West Coast, the first PM in 33 years to do so, despite the large concentration of Indian-American and IT workers there. He will also visit the campuses of Google, where he will meet new CEO Sundar Pichai, and Tesla Motors, where he will discuss renewable energy with Elon Musk. Modi is also scheduled to meet with Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook, and Adobe Systems’ CEO Shantanu Narayen. The same day, he is supposed to attend the ‘India-US Start-up Konnect’- hosted by the Nasscom, TiE Silicon Valley and IIM Ahmedabad's CIIE India, an event that Modi said was ‘enthusiastic’ about. At this event, a group of Indian start-ups will showcase their innovations and forge partnerships with the vibrant American start-up industry. 27th September Modi will take a tour of the offices of Facebook Inc., in Palo Alto. At 10 pm IST (9:30am Local time), Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to host Q&A with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 28th September On September 27 evening (Morning of 28th September in India), PM will address the Indian diaspora in a Madison Square Garden-style planned event at the SAP Center Arena in San Jose. Organised by the Indian American community of the West Coast, more than 45,000 Indians are expected to show up for the community reception for the PM. (With IANS inputs)
