The Gujarat Police on Sunday took no chances as they detained Patidar Anamat Aandolan Samiti (PAAS) convenor, Hardik Patel, on Rajkot-Jamnagar Highway.
According to various reports, he was detained 2-5 kms from the stadium in Rajkot, where India is currently playing the third ODI against South Africa.
The Patidar leader had issued a statement to disrupt the match.
In a desperate attempt to keep his Patel quota stir alive, he had threatened to disrupt the match with slogans of 'Jai Sardar' if his supporters were not allowed to enter the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
The match however started on time, with police fortifying the city in the wake of the threat and violence witnessed earlier last month.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services had been blocke on Saturday night for a period of 36 hours to "maintain peace, stop rumours and for the smooth conduct of the international cricket match," District Collector Manisha Chandra said.
