In a shocking incident, a woman has filed a rape case against a BJP Youth leader Ravindra Bawanthade in Maharashtra.
The women alleged that the BJP leader raped her in a moving bus after he assured to marry her and promised her a job. The police have registered the case but the youth leader Ravindra Bawanthade is still at large as the police is yet to trace him down.
Meanwhile, a video of the BJP leader has gone viral on the social media with visuals of him allegedly kissing the woman. The CCTV video of inside the bus show Bawanthade with the women in a moving bus kissing her. This bus was running between Nagpur and Chandrapur.
The women came forward after the video went viral, accusing Bawanthade of rape under the pretext of marriage and job. This has been a big blow for the ruling party in Maharashtra as the BJP leader in question is in alliance with Shiv Sena. The party leaders are refraining from commenting on the situation.
Although this is a huge hit for the ruling party, it's not a one of a kind story in Maharashtra. Maharashtra has one of the highest crime rates against women in the entire country.
According to a survey 4,176 rapes were registered in Maharashtra in 2015 alone. The report said that molestation cases have gone up to 11,696 in 2015 from 8,132 and 10,001 cases in2013 and 2014 respectively.
