A Gurugram located landlord and his son allegedly pushed a 20-year-old student, who lived in their building as paying guest, over the balcony of their 5th floor during arguments over water shortage and power cuts.

The student, identified as Ramesh Singh Bisht, belonged to Haldwani village in Uttarakhand and was staying in Gurugram for his further education. He took residence in a six-story building in DLF-3 as a paying guest along with 4 of his friends.

The five friends were studying in a Private Institute under a government scheme, a vocational course in food and beverage management.

The Police said the building owner gathered a total of 15 people during the time of their argument. The police have booked all of them under murder and rioting sections of the IPC. The police added, however, the prime suspect, the landlord and his son, are still at large.

The police told that Bisht and his friends had been complaining about the water and power shortage for the last few days. It triggered a fight between the landlord Satbir Singh and Bisht Wednesday night.

Bisht’s friend, Neeraj Singh Panwar, in his police complaint said, “Around 11.30pm on Wednesday, when we were in our room, Singh came and asked all of us to move to the other room. He was drunk. When we objected, an argument started. Then the owner called his two sons — Rahul and Rohit — and 12 others, and all of them started thrashing us with sticks. They pushed Bisht and he fell from the balcony.”

Panwar and his other friends rushed Bisht to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Panwar said, “We want strict action against the Singh and the others.”

Bisht's father is a retired Army officer. Bisht was the youngest of his siblings. His father told the media, “After completing 12th standard, he joined the hospitality course and came to Gurugram on June 28. We cannot believe he is no more. We want the accused to be severely punished.”

The Police has arrested two people Sheeshram and Sunil in relation to the Bisht’s murder. The SHO, Inspector Sudip Kumar said, "They were accomplices of Singh, who is absconding along with the rest of his family after the incident. We are conducting raids to nab the other accused.”
