In the wake of alarming reports on shrinking of renowned ‘Shiv lingam’ at Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, the Supreme Court on Friday directed RO water to be used instead of Gangajal  for it’s 'Jal Abhishek'.

According to the new norms approved by the apex court, there is restriction over the quantity of milk for ‘dugdh abhishek’ ritual. The milk to be used should not be more than 1.25 litres.

Earlier, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had been asked by the Supreme court to investigate into the erosion of the temple.

Ujjaini Vidwat Prishad- the body of intellectuals - has blamed the excessive 'Bhaag Shingar and Panchamrit to be the main reason of Shiv Lingam's shrinking.

Contrary to Ujjaini Vidwat Parishad's opinion, to save the 'Shiv Lingam', the expert committee has suggested to restrict certain offerings by devotees which are made by priests.
