The Uttar Pradesh government, after facing flak for not taking action on the rape allegations against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, on Wednesday night ordered the police to file a case against Sengar who is accused of raping a 16-year-old in June last year. The case has also been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

On Thursday morning, Police SO Rajesh Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The FIR has been registered against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar under sections 363, 366, 376 ,506 and POCSO act.

According to reports, the CBI was asked to step in after a special probe team set up by the Yogi Adityanath government found serious lapses by the doctors as well as the police in Unnao.

Meanwhile, the BJP lawmaker maintained that he was not a rapist and reached the residence of Lucknow's top cop on Wednesday night, along with 100 supporters in a convoy of 20 vehicles.

"I have come here because TV channels were saying I will surrender," said Kuldeep Sengar.

"You have made me an accused in a rape case.... Am a BJP worker, I will reach where you want me to," he said

The 16-year-old girl has alleged that BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar and his brother Atul Sengar gangraped her last year in Unnao and that since June 2017 she has been trying to get police to act against the lawmaker. The girl attempted suicide outside the residence of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 8, bringing the case into the limelight.

Her 55-year-old father was allegedly thrashed by Atul Sengar and then arrested as he was trying to pursue the case. The father of the victim was brought to the hospital from jail where he died on Monday, sparking outrage amidst rumours that he had been tortured. After the death of the rape victim's father, Atul was arrested on Tuesday.
