BJP top guns, national President Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Smriti Irani addressed a rally in Amethi on Tuesday, a stronghold of Congress party which is currently the parliamentary constituency of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

With a mission to secure votes for the BJP party in the Lok Sabha polls of 2019, the BJP leaders went all out to denounce the lack of achievement in Amethi, and Smriti Irani, who had fought for Amethi in the last elections alleged that the constituency was a burden for the Congress Vice President.

"Rahul and Sonia never listen to the problems of people (in Amethi). They keep travelling across the country but talk about Amethi and they'll freeze," said Irani.

“Being Amethi's didi (elder sister) has been my biggest fortune,” she said.

“We sisters are not egoistic. It's our duty to focus on the development,” Irani said in an indirect jab to Rahul Gandhi.

Speaking on Rahul Gandhi's statements from Gujarat where he is currently campaigning for the upcoming state assembly polls, Irani said that while the Congress leader made fun of development in Gujarat, he had no response to the lack of development in Amethi, which had been in the hands of the Congress for more than 60 years.

"This state was once ruled by the Congress and the Gandhi clan has been representing Amethi for long. Now is the time for them to answer the people why there has been no development," she said.

Irani accused Gandhi of cheating the farmers by grabbing their land through the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

"A vast stretch of land was given by farmers long back for construction of the Samrat cycle factory. When nothing much happened, there is an effort to occupy the land illegally and despite eviction notice, they are not letting the land go," said Irani.

CM Yogi Adityanath also referred to the alleged land grabbing.

"Earlier only son-in-law tried to grab land, but now even son is trying to do that, but it won't be possible in Uttar Pradesh," said Yogi.

"We'll develop Amethi along with the entire Uttar Pradesh," added Adityanath.

Amit Shah addressing the rally also assured the development of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state of the nation, where BJP secured a landslide victory earlier this year.

"I can assure you that Uttar Pradesh will become a developed state like Gujarat. There is Yogi in UP and Modi in Delhi. This jodi (pair) will together develop the state fully," Shah said.
