The accusations of corruption against Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad Yadav have thrown the Grand Alliance of Bihar in turmoil as calls come for the resignation of Tejashwi.

Lalu maintains that the allegations are a part of BJP's vendetta politics and refused to make his son step down. Congress has so far stated its position in the matter that it is the decision of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on whether Tejashwi should be removed from the cabinet or not.

According to sources, Nitish Kumar wants Congress president Sonia Gandhi to intervene in the issue and mediate to solve the impasse between Nitish and Lalu.

As the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal United hold separate party meetings in Patna on Sunday ahead of the Presidential elections on Monday, the party leaders are expected to speak their mind on the troubles being faced in the coalition.

In the past, when Lalu himself was alleged of corruption charges in connection with the fodder scam while he was the Chief Minister in the 1990s, calls came for his resignation however he did not step down until a court ordered his arrest. Since the current government in Bihar has Lalu in coalition with other parties, he may not have as much flexibility in responding to corruption charges on his son Tejashwi.

CM Nitish Kumar became a cause for concern for the Opposition when he declared his support for the NDA presidential candidate, former Bihar governor Ram Nath Kovind. He did later describe his support as a one-off event and returned to support the Opposition candidate for vice president, Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
