Kashmiri separatist Shabir Shah is likely to be arrested this week as the Enforcement Directorate has obtained a non-bailable arrest warrant against him after he refused at least 8 summons by agencies in the last 2 years for allegedly receiving money from Pakistan through hawala channels.

"Shabir Shah was given sufficient opportunities to appear before the directorate through summons but he wilfully avoided the investigation without any reasonable cause," a senior ED official said.

According to the ED probe, Shah had acquired property in various parts of the country including in and around Delhi with unaccounted money.

"The source of money through which he has acquired these properties are not known and he has been asked to join probe to give proof of income for acquiring such assets," the official said.

Delhi Police special cell had registered a case against Shah in 2005 after it arrested a hawala dealer who confessed that he was to deliver the Rs 63 lakh in his possession to Shah in Srinagar. During the investigations, it was revealed that Shah continued to get paid for subversive activities in India from Pakistani authorities by means of illegal channels.

The hawala dealer Mohammad Aslam Wani had been arrested by Delhi Police with 5 kg of explosives, a pistol with 15 live cartridges and Rs 63 lakh.

"During investigation, Wani disclosed he was working as a carrier for Shabir for the last few years. His job was to collect hawala money from Delhi and deliver it to Shah in Srinagar," the official said.
