Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in Tumakuru as per of his campaign for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

Alleging that there was collusion between the Congress and JD9S), Modi said, “who can deny that there is a collision between JD (S) and Cong when they are fighting in Tumukuru but are in alliance in Bangalore Municipal Corporation. They should stop making fool out of people of Tumukuru and Karnataka.”

Interestingly the Congress party had been alleging that there is a strategic understanding and behind the curtains alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (Secular). Addressing a public meeting at Hasan, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had termed JD(s) as the B-team of BJP. Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily too had called JD (S) as the B-team of BJP.

Ridiculing the Congress party on its pro-farmer approach, Modi said, “Since Indira Gandhi’s time, the Congress kept chanting 'Gareeb' and betraying the poor to win elections. However, ever since a poor mother's son became PM, they changed their slogan and have started chanting farmers.”

He said that the Congress party did nothing for the farmers in the 70 years and that is the reason behind the condition of farmers today.

“One family in the Congress party has ruled for most of the time after 70 years of independence they should answer why the farmer is debt-ridden and doing suicides,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the plight of farmers is a result of the failed politics of the Congress Governments that were more concerned about filling their own coffers rather than providing water and help to the farmers.

Modi claimed that his government was washing the sins committed by the Congress governments at centre and state.

Condemning the Siddaramaiah Government, Modi said, “Resources have been allocated for Tumakuru's development under Smart Cities project. These resources are aimed at transforming Tumakuru but the state Govt prefers to loot money rather than work for welfare.”

In a sharp rebuttal, Karnataka CM asked the Prime Minister the basis of his statement and challenged him to make any such information public.

Invoking Former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee, Modi said that Vajpayee’s dream of river-linking remained unfulfilled and promised that the BJP Government will link Hemavati and Netravati rivers which will directly benefit farmers of 8 districts.
