Congress President Rahul Gandhi who has so far not commented about becoming the next Prime Minister of the nation on Tuesday confirmed to media that if Congress is the single largest party in the 2019 General Elections, he is ready to be the PM.
When asked whether he would be the PM in 2019 if Congress is the single largest party, Rahul Gandhi said, "Yes why not."
Currently, in poll-bound Karnataka campaigning for the state elections on May 12, Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well.
"Prime Minister Modi only says his 'mann ki baat' but doesn't listens to what the country has to say to him" said Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
"A BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh rapes a woman and PM Modi does not even utter a word," Rahul Gandhi asked, referring to the Unnao rape.
"There is a systematic attempt by the BJP and RSS to capture all of India's institutions. They are targeting systematically every single institution and the Congress party and the opposition is resisting," he said.
Rahul Gandhi also questioned the choice of BS Yeddyurappa as the BJP chief ministerial candidate for Karnataka.
"We are asking the PM who is coming here on a regular basis to please explain to the people of Karnataka why he has chosen a corrupt person with a record of being in jail as his chief ministerial candidate," Gandhi said.
"People of Karnataka want to know why Mr. Narendra Modi could not find a non-corrupt chief ministerial candidate. Also, they want to know why Mr. Modi has given 8 tickets to the Reddy brothers who have stolen Rs 35,000 crores of Karnataka people's money," he said.
"Amit Shah has been accused of murder. Don't think he has lot of credibility. People in India forget that BJP President is a murder accused. Party that talks about honesty, decency has a person who's been accused of murder as President," said the Congress President in Bengaluru.
