Enraged followers of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on Friday turned violent after the CBI court held the spiritual leader guilty in the 2002 rape case which alleged that the god man sexually assaulted two of his women followers in his Haryana headquarter.

There has been a total blackout in Haryana since the court's verdict in Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's conviction as the police took down the electricity supply in the state.

As the news of verdict passed through the crowd, Dera Sacha Sauda supporters turned violent burning cars, buses, railway stations and media OB vans. In some places the mob even attacked government offices.

A few journalists were injured in the attack while cameras of photo-journalists and TV cameramen were damaged by the sect followers.

Stone pelting and torching vehicles have also been reported from many areas.

In sight of the violence, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was airlifted from the court premises by Helicopter to temporarily lodge him into Haryana's Rohtak Jail.

Curfew has been clamped in four five cities of Punjab namely in Bathinda, Mansa, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Panchkula.

The security forces fired tear gas shells and used water guns and lathi charge in order to control the crowd. Surprisingly 15 incidents of violence were reported within 45 minutes in Punjab and Haryana after the court verdict became known.

Most attacks took place in Sectors 3, 4 and 5, which are all close to the court complex.

There is currently in a complete shutdown of law and order in Haryana as at least 13 people have reportedly lost their lives in the large scale scuffle while over 100 have been injured.

Meanwhile, violence has also spread to Delhi and Himachal Pradesh as protesters set a train and 2 DTC buses ablaze near Anand Vihar.

The police and paramilitary forces could not react adequately as the mobs indulged in violence. But tear gas was fired at one place, leading to stone throwing by Ram Rahim Singh's supporters.
