The Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed stormy scenes as the Rafale deal was taken up for discussion and had to be adjourned twice. Congress president Rahul Gandhi opened the debate and targeted the BJP-led NDA government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said, that he “does not have guts” to come to Parliament to confront questions on the issue and “hides” in his room.

Rahul said the entire Rafale deal was tainted and said that the truth will come out before the nation. Rahul Gandhi reiterates his party's demand for a joint parliamentary committee probe in the matter. He demanded a JPC in this matter.

He further questioned the opposition that Airforce wanted 126 air crafts. Why did the demand change from 126 to 36? What made this demand change? Did the government ask the air force to reduce the demand? The excuse was that they needed the aircraft urgently. But why didn’t a single aircraft came into use?

He further added, "Why did you give this contract to your dear friend Mr Anil Ambani? Why did you take this contract away from HAL?"

He even claimed that Rafale deal snatched away employment opportunities for youth, “Indian youth would have got the honour to be associated with Rafale had HAL got the project. But the contract was given to Anil Ambani.”

Rahul Gandhi even asked permission to play a tape the Congress said was evidence that Manohar Parrikar, the former defence minister, had all files related to the contentious Indo-French Rafale deal.

Gandhi's request was turned down by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who raised a point of order, called the recording "false and fabricated".
