There isn't any bridge constructed to cross the Nagavali river in Odisha but this fact was revealed to the world after an ugly incident took place near the river. A pregnant woman had to be taken on shoulders by her husband to cross the river.

Odisha government ordered an immediate inquiry after the incident received public scrutiny. 'We have ordered the district health authorities and the district collector to inquire into the incident and submit their reports. Action will be taken as per the findings of the inquiry', Health and Family Welfare Minister P K Jena told reporters.

The good news is that the woman gave birth to a healthy daughter on a late Tuesday evening at Kalyansinghpur community health centre and both the mother and daughter are doing fine.

Anku Miniaka(30) living in Rayagada district of Odisha went into labor on Monday and her family confesses that even after calling the ambulance a number of times, no positive response came from the other end.

'Left with no option, we carried her on a stretcher on our shoulders and walked 2 km', one of the family members said.

The water in the river was approximately waist-deep and the woman was carried on shoulders across the river to reach the hospital.

There is apparently no proper roads that connect parts of the village to the cities and this leads to a lot of chaos in any emergency situations like the one on Tuesday.

The district collector said, 'The steps are being taken to construct a bridge over Nagavali river under Biju Setu Yojana for providing connectivity to Talasaja village.'
