Four powerlifting players were killed, and 2 others seriously injured, including Saksham Yadav, in a road accident near the Singhu border in outer Delhi's Alipur area during the early hours of Sunday.

According to reports, the accident was reported around 4 AM when the players were returning from an athletic meet in Haryana's Panipat in a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire car. The driver somehow lost balance, allegedly while overtaking another vehicle, and rammed into a roadside pole, overturning the vehicle. The vehicle toppled several times before coming to a halt.

Police said that 3 of the deceased have been identified as Harish, Tinku and Suraj while the fourth person is yet to be identified. All the 6 athletes were taken to the Raja Harish Chandra hospital where four of them were declared dead on arrival. The two survivors, Saksham Yadav and his associate Baali who suffered from severe head injuries, were then taken to the Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh.

The police have registered a case under section 304A causing death due to negligence and negligent driving against the driver.

Although the exact cause of the accident is yet to be identified, fog is expected to have played a role. CCTV footage from the Singhu border is being scanned to find determine the cause of the accident.
