PM Modi, President Mukherjee, CM Mehbooba Mufti Condemn Amarnath Yatra Attack

In the wake of the terrorist attack on pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra that resulted in the death of 7 people and injuring 14 on Monday night, political leaders have come together to condemn the attack.

Barely hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist module by the arrest of two persons, a minibus carrying pilgrims from Gujarat to the Amarnath yatra was attacked, leading to the death of 7 persons and injuring 7.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was apprised of the situation from National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the PM tweeted:  "Pained beyond words on the dastardly attack on peaceful Amarnath Yatris in J&K. The attack deserves strongest condemnation from everyone."

After the attack, President Pranab Mukherjee tweeted "Strongly condemn attack on Amarnath Yatris in J & K ; grieve the loss of innocent lives."

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said, "It is an attack on our roots. We will not leave any stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of this attack to justice."

Union Minister of State in the PMO Jitendra Singh also condemned the attack.

"It is not just an attack on the pilgrims, but an attack on the composite culture of the nation. As far as the Government of India is concerned, we have a policy of zero tolerance against terror, whether it is local or from across the border," he said.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah said: "The attack cannot be condemned strongly enough."

Internet services have been shut down in the valley.
