PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone For National Centre for Ageing At AIIMS Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the National Centre for Ageing at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Friday, which is designed to be a specialised centre of excellence for geriatric care.

Increase in life expectancy, resulting in a larger geriatric population has increased the need for specialised care for the elderly, which would be aided by the establishment of National Centres for Ageing.

PM Modi, after laying the foundation stone for the National Centre for Ageing at AIIMS, highlighted the improvements in public care.

"Seeing the increasing pressure on AIIMS, we are increasing facilities at all of its campuses. Today, the foundation stone of National Centre for Ageing, which will be built at a cost of Rs 300 crore was laid. The ward, with around 200 beds centre, will provide Multi-Speciality healthcare to the older people," said PM Modi.

"In the last four years, the country has been given a new direction to public healthcare. After one central intervention of the central government, we are moving towards the situation where the poor and middle class of the country should not wander for better health services, do not have to spend unnecessary expenditure," he said.

"The government's efforts are to ensure well-developed health infrastructure around all the big cities, strengthening it along with similar features. The government is working at two broad level to deliver infrastructure to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities," said PM Modi.

"A healthcare system is being created for New India, where there are better hospitals, more beds, better facilities, excellent doctors. Our government is upgrading 58 district hospitals into medical colleges. Under this project, 24 new medical colleges have been announced," he added.

"The vision of our government is not limited to just hospitals, illness, medicines and modern facilities. The National Health Policy has been created to help the citizens of our country, which will ensure treatment, eliminate the causes of sickness at low cost," said PM Modi.
