18 Opposition Parties To Meet As Parliament Monsoon Session 2017 Comes To An End Today

The Parliament Monsoon Session 2017 comes to an end on Friday with a total of only 9 bills being passed by both the Houses out of the agenda of 25 bills to be passed during the 19-day parliament session.

Leaders of 18 opposition parties are scheduled to attend a meeting chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi to chalk out an effective strategy to take on the Centre once the Parliament Monsoon session ends.

An invitation had been sent out by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on behalf of the Congress chief to leaders of opposition parties including JD(U)'s Sharad Yadav, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and Sitaram Yechury.

Apart from the Congress and Left parties, TMC, RJD, JD(U), NCP, JMM, DMK, NC, SP, BSP, RLD, JD-S, Kerala Congress, AIUDF are also expected to participate in the meeting.

The meeting is likely to discuss an opposition rally called by Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad in Patna on August 27, which will target the newly-formed Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal-United alliance government in Bihar led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
