After the initial reports of CBI court announcing 10-years prison sentence to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, his lawyer has said that the CBI judge has announced a total of 20-years imprisonment and 30 lakh fine.

The lawyer of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim told the that the court announced 10 years imprisonment and Rs 15 lakh fine each in two rape cases.

The judgment also added Rs 14 lakh to be paid to both of the rape survivors.

News Agency ANI reported:

The news agency also reported Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirming the news saying, "Ram Rahim Singh sentenced for a total of 20 yrs,10 10-yrs each & a fine of Rs 15 lakh in each of the two cases: Haryana CM ML Khattar."

Earlier, reports of a 10-year sentence by the CBI special court judge Jagdeep Singh had broken into the news.

Earlier reports said, that the special CBI court judge Jagdeep Singh had sentenced rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 10 years of imprisonment in the 15-year-old rape case.

The lawyer of Ram Rahim had earlier said that they will read the judgement in details later.

Both sides had presented their arguments in the CBI court after which the judge called for the maximum sentence to the accused. The defence argued that Ram Rahim Singh is a social worker who has worked for the welfare of people, and so the judge should take a lenient view.

He was convicted under the section 375 and 376 of Indian Penal Code, which has the minimum punishment of 7 years extending up to life imprisonment.

The verdict was announced in a court facility specially set up in the Rohtak jail as Ram Rahim could not be taken to Panchkula court for sentencing.

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim was found guilty of rape and criminal intimidation of 2 female disciples in 2002 and was convicted on Friday triggering massive protests from Dera followers who resorted to violence and arson in Haryana, Punjab and even areas of Delhi. At least 38 people were killed and more than 200 injured in the ensuing violence, following which Ram Rahim was airlifted to Rohtak's Sunaria jail.
