The brutal rape and murder of an eight-year-old in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir had shocked the entire nation leaving the masses ashamed. On Monday, Supreme Court was scheduled to hear the petitions seeking CBI probe in the matter.

SC has however refused CBI probe in the case and decided to rely on the state investigation. The apex court has allowed the Jammu and Kashmir government to appoint a public prosecutor in the Pathankot Court.

The court has asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to provide security to the victim's family, their lawyer and all witnesses. Earlier, the J&K government has opposed to the idea of transferring case to court state and assured necessary security arrangements for smooth trial.

The infamous Kathua Rape Case involving the inhumane rape of the 8-year-old by multiple men inside the Devasthan prayer hall before she was strangled to death to allegedly "dislodge" a group of Bakherwal Muslim nomads from the Rasana village in Kathua has shaken the entire country.
