The BJP backfired at Rahul Gandhi over his ‘weak Modi’ remark on Masood Azhar veto saying that it was only because of Nehru-Gandhi family that the country was facing such a scenario.

BJP took to Twitter and replied to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet saying, “China wouldn't be in UNSC had your great grandfather not 'gifted' it to them at India’s cost.”

Earlier in the day, the Congress chief had attacked Modi government over his China diplomacy saying, “Weak Modi is scared of Xi. Not a word comes out of his mouth when China acts against India.”

“India is undoing all mistakes of your family. Be assured that India will win the fight against terror. Leave it to PM Modi while you keep cosying up with the Chinese envoys secretly,” the BJP said on Twitter while attacking Gandhi.

The proposal to designate Azhar under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council was put on a "technical" hold by China. This is the fourth time that China has blocked the resolution against Azhar since 2009.

More than 10 countries had supported India's bid to designate JeM Chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist in the United Nations Security Council 1267 list, as co-sponsors.

The proposal was moved by France, UK, and the US on February 27. Germany became a co-sponsor to the proposal later on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, India expressed "disappointment" over China's move. "We are disappointed by this outcome. This has prevented action by the international community to designate the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a proscribed and active terrorist organization which has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February 2019", said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a statement
