Naxals Third Most Deadly Terror Organisation In The World After ISIS, Taliban: US Report

A recent analysis by the US has identified Naxals as the third most deadly terror organisation in the world after the Islamic State (ISIS) and Taliban, even ahead of Nigeria-based Boko Haram.

As per the report, Naxals were behind 336 terror attacks last year due to which 174 people were killed and 141 were injured but the deadliest terror attack took place in July 2016 when Naxals attacked CRPF personnel in Bihar, leading to the death of 16.

The US report added that 'nearly two third of terror attacks in India were carried by Naxals'.

India has become the third country which had the most number of terror attacks in 2016, after Iraq and Afghanistan, displacing Pakistan which was earlier at the third position.

From the 11,072 terror attacks in 2016 worldwide, India was the location of 927, 16% more than 2015 (798). The number of deaths in India as a result of terrorist activities also rose 17% from 289 in 2015 to 337 last year while the number of injured increased from 500 in 2015 to 636 last year. In comparison, the number of terror attacks in Pakistan reduced by 27% to 734 in 2016 from 1,010 in 2015.

According to the report, there is a larger number of different terror groups in India which led to the increase in the number of terror attacks. In 2016, there were 52 different terrorist groups active in India.

The majority of terror attacks in India take place in Jammu and Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, and Jharkhand.
